Here are some helpful tips on how to treat depression:
1. Admit that you are depressed. There’s no other way to treat depression. Healing starts from the moment you admit in yourself that you have a problem in this area of your life and you cannot handle it by yourself. Healing is only possible once you realize denying your condition only makes matters worse. Some people are ashamed to admit to themselves and other people that they suffer from depression. But it’s nothing to be ashamed of. It can be treated and only willingness and acceptance on your part can let it happen.
2. Examine your pattern of depression. Keep track of situations and things that induce feelings of depression in you. Then take a mental note of it, or better if you keep a journal so you could refer to it without putting too much burden on your memory. Revisit your journal time and again and do a self-reflection. What are the specific circumstances that lead you to bouts of depression? List them down and then start planning ahead on what you can do to avoid or lessen the probability of these situations arising in the future.
3. Keep company. Socialization, bonding with people who matters to you and who values you as a person, is the enemy of depression. The more you retreat and isolate, the slower your progress would go. But the more you open yourself up to the world and keep the company of people, the better you will feel about yourself. Major Triggers of Depression

The term “Depression” is often used to describe an emotion or, and, in technical terms, a symptom of a syndrome or psychological disorder. The sadness of depression hardly needs description, as most people have experienced it at some point in their lives. It is only the duration that separates the symptom of a disorder from a mood. Great care must be taken as when a feeling of depression is present for most of the day, and continues to be experienced for prolonged amount of time(weeks), it is considered a symptom of a depressive disorder.
While there are many causes of this disorder and not everyone is affected the same, these triggers are the most common ones:
Relationship conflict/breakdown or loss
Conflict represents both a stress and a loss of significant social support. When a spouse dies or leaves, there is an expected period of grief. While mourning and depression are experienced as very similar, they are considered different. That said, there is a risk for mourning to develop into depression.
Job loss
Losing one’s job is a complex stressor array. Initially it may be born of one stress or group of stresses (conflict in the workplace), but this soon transforms into new stresses with the course of time, such as including financial strain, worries about future work, the prospect of relocation, strained relations with family, etc. Work is a major life role, and losing this role often undermines self-esteem. Anxiety and Depression Symptoms

Most people believe anxiety and depression are two separate conditions that do not work together. But the fact is research has shown that the two do actually overlap each other, however the symptoms can be completely separate of each other, this makes it difficult to initially diagnose either condition.
The reason why these two disorders occur at the same time is not fully understood. Research shows that major depression can often accompany an anxiety disorder. Both of these disorders are more than likely caused by a brain chemistry imbalance, however the exact reason these two opposite disorders exist in the same person is still not understood. What is understood is that the flight or fight reaction does not work in anxiety sufferers, it can be triggered by any thing at any time. Anxiety sufferers always feel they are in danger.
When you think about someone suffering from depression you generally associate it with someone that is in despair, angry, tired, overwhelmed by normal life, and unwilling to be part of society.
